Of course the dolts at Anheuser Busch don't really know that "Chelada" doesn't contain tomato juice...it's simply Mexican beer with lime and rim salt.
However, for those with a nasty hangover, this might end up being the perfect breakfast cocktail.
I don't drink anymore...but I used to. I recall a drunken weekend in Tijuana when I was amused by Mexicans who were drinking their "lunch"...Tecate beer in a mug with hot carrots, onions, tomatoes and jalapenos.
I tried it. Ugh. My stomach was en fuego...

The cans alone look nasty!
ReplyDeleteI've never heard of Chelada. You must get around!
ReplyDeleteHey Joules...just glad you came over! Please don't be a stranger...
ReplyDeleteI know you are a local...I'm in PB. If "Chelada" is being sold in PB 7/11 stores, I am sure they've hit your 'hood as well. AB is clearly marketing to our local "immigrant" population. I understand Cheladas are being sold in Texas border towns as well.
Well, there's a liquor store next to our 7-11 in Poway but it looks like a scary place.
ReplyDeleteI haven't been able to get on Blogger because I lost my top secret sign-in information. I found it again the other day!
I stumbled on some other good blogs while visitng Rod Dreher's Crunchy Con blog a couple of weeks ago. You and your friends at 6MB might like them, too; although, for me it's get out the dictionary and use Wikipedia to understand some of the posts (not at Rod Dreher's blog). I don't have the links but you can Google the sites if you're interested. One is the Postmodern Conservative (James G. Poulos) and the other is The American Scene, a group blog.
Thanks for the tips, Joules. I'll look for them...
