House Speaker Nancy Pelosi expressed deep disappointment on Friday that California voters approved Prop. 8, the measure banning same-sex marriage, and defended her ally, San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom, against critics who say his actions contributed to its passage.
In a wide-ranging interview with The Chronicle, Pelosi said she believes some voters might not have fully understood the initiative, which overturned a state Supreme Court ruling legalizing same-sex marriage. The measure was approved 52 to 48 percent.
"Unfortunately, I think people thought they were making a statement about what their view of same-sex marriage was," the San Francisco Democrat said. "I don't know if it was clear that this meant that we are amending the Constitution to diminish freedom in our state."
Newsom played a starring role in TV and radio ads aired by the Yes on Prop. 8 campaign, which seized on his remarks at a rally in May after the court's ruling that same-sex marriages were "going to happen, whether you like it or not."
I don't need to dissect this except to say...Screw you, Nancy. You are the dumbest bitch ever to hold a gavel.
Although I do have contact information and other personal information for Renee, I didn't post any of that...because that's just not how I roll. Yeah, what she and her "wife" did was completely despicable and I am sure some of you would like to let her know...still, I just don't do that.
Yeah, you got that right! Proposition 8 is about HATE and discrimination. Don't let the religious wrong convince you otherwise.
Now ordinarily I would just leave something like that alone...just another gutless "anonymous" libtard sounding off. Except this one smelled fishy...and here's why:
You have to click on it to make it big enough to read
Anyone want to take a guess which Bay Area bank Renee works at?
I'm not saying it's her. It could be. Or maybe it's just another Silicon Valley Bank employee spreading their own brand of tolerance on company time...
"They came last night, washed the paint off and drove away," said Bob Sundstrom, whose family incurred the wrath of two gay-marriage supporters after the family hung a huge banner on their garage in favor of the ballot measure banning same-sex marriage. "What a relief, I'm happy it's gone."
Sunday, two women in a Chevrolet Surbuban drove up in front of the Sundstrom's home and painted the sport-utility vehicle's windows with slogans accusing the devout Mormon family of seven of being "bigots" and "haters." So for the next few days, the Sundstroms were forced to reckon with the eyesore. Police told them the vehicle would be towed away if was not moved in three days.
Tuesday evening, however, one of the women whom Sundstrom recognized from the previous encounter showed up, washed off the slogans and then left in the SUV.
"She wasn't in the mood for conversation. It's obvious we weren't going to change each other's view," Sundstrom said. "She brought her own bucket to wash off the paint."
The SUV is registered to Mara McWilliams and Renee Mangrum, who married in 2004 when San Francisco began performing gay marriages. Neither could be reached for comment.
And neither will be reached for comment. Because libtards cannot be held accountable for their actions, yo.
Interestingly, Mara has a ready-made excuse for her actions. She's bi-polar:
I believe the more we educate each other and unite for the sake of mental wellness for all, our world would be a better place for our children to play. I hope you share this belief, if so, welcome to our journey…
Quite honestly, I have been to hell and back and I am proud to be able to stand here tall and say I have survived, and I am continuing to survive, my illness and society’s stereotypes of me. I am also simply a woman, mother, wife, artist, poet, author and a mental health advocate.
While growing up, my parents thought something was a little “off” about my mood swings...
“We’re already a family,” said Mara McWilliams, a 34-year-old mental health worker from San Jose, as she waited in line for her turn in the clerk’s office Sunday morning. Her 8-year-old daughter, Serena, clutched her leg as McWilliams’ partner of four years, Renee Mangrum, dashed off to get coffee. “This is to show the world we’re already a family. We’re normal, professional people. We’re not here with our freak on.”
A group of San Francisco first-graders took an unusual field trip to City Hall on Friday to toss rose petals on their just-married lesbian teacher - putting the public school children at the center of a fierce election battle over the fate of same-sex marriage.
The 18 Creative Arts Charter School students took a Muni bus and walked a block at noon to toss rose petals and blow bubbles on their just-married teacher Erin Carder and her wife Kerri McCoy, giggling and squealing as they mobbed their teacher with hugs.
Mayor Gavin Newsom, a friend of a friend, officiated.
Opponents of Proposition 8 (the California Marriage Protection Act...I'll not use the redefinition mandated by our libtard AG Jerry Brown), have maintained that our children will NOT be indoctrinated by the homosexual agenda. Oh yeah?:
"She's such a dedicated teacher," said the school's interim director Liz Jaroslow.
"It really is what we call a teachable moment," Jaroflow said, noting the historic significance of same-sex marriage and related civil rights issues.
Remember, your children will NOT be indoctrinated by our schools:
OK, it's possible this isn't really Urkle, but we haven't seen our favorite sitcom geek in over a decade now...
OK all you lesbian, gay and transgender folk....make up your minds. You're either a man or a woman, please don't claim to be both. If you choose to dress like a man and look like a man...then go use the men's bathroom.
Today, on Ms. Farmer’s behalf, the Transgender Legal Defense and Education Fund filed a lawsuit in State Supreme Court in Manhattan against Caliente Cab, asserting that she was the victim of gender discrimination.
While Ms. Farmer herself is not transgender, the organization sees the case as strategically important and potentially precedent-setting, said Michael D. Silverman, the executive director and general counsel of the Transgender Legal Defense and Education Fund.
OK...now quick quiz. You have 3 seconds. Man or woman?:
Yeah, I couldn't tell either. But here's the thing. If you are going to dress like a man, cut your hair like a man and clearly be trying to look like a man...then act like a man for crying out loud.
I personally don't care if you have to squat to pee...it's not like I am looking into your stall to figure out what you're doing. Come on in...
Time to set the record straight. Today I spoke with a fire captain from a neighboring fire department about the San Diego Pride Parade/firefighter controversy. He is very familiar with the entire situation and has spoken with San Diego Fire Chief Tracy Jarman.
He told me that Tracy Jarman did not order the firefighters to represent the fire station and was completely unaware that day of any problems.
In fact, a review of the complaint (available here) shows that the firefighters did not implicate Jarman...but rather that the order came from "Shift Commander Camberos, Deputy Chief Marlborough, and Assistant Chief Jeff Carle", through Battalion Chief Pollard.
San Diego Fire Chief Tracy Jarman
In fact, Jarman is not named anywhere in the complaint.
I know some have rushed to blame Jarman for this fiasco...and certainly Jarman is where the buck should stop since she is the chief. Jarman did apologize to the firefighters for the screw up...whereas Assistant Chief Carle allegedly critiqued the firefighters as "a group of guys that have issues with homosexuality" (from firefighter Chad Allison's statement).
That Jarman is an open lesbian naturally led many to believe that she was responsible for ordering the firefighters to attend. It turns out this is not the case. Let's give her the time to sort all of this out.
Update: Per Bill O'Reilly on the Factor, Jarman has reportedly apologized to the firefighters:
Is an apology enough? Personally, I think so as long as it is followed by a new policy indicating that the San Diego Fire Department does not participate in uniform using city-owned fire trucks in future "pride" parades.
Four respected San Diego firefighters were ordered, against their wishes, to participate in uniform on their city fire truck in the city’s annual “Gay Pride” parade.
During the course of the ensuing three hour long ordeal, the firefighters were subjected to vile sexual taunts from homosexuals lining the parade route. This included the following statements: “show me your hose,” “you can put out my fire,” “you’re making me hot,” “give me mouth-to-mouth,” “you look hungry, why don’t you have a twinkie (from a man wearing a “Girth and Mirth” t-shirt),” and “blow my hose.”
When they refused to respond to the crowd, some in the crowd turned hostile and started shouting, “F—k you firemen” and others began “flipping them off.”
San Diego's annual parade celebrates this
The firefighters were also targets of gross sexual gestures to include the following: exposure of genitals, blowing kisses, grabbing of the crotch, rubbing of nipples, tongue gestures, men hugging and kissing one another passionately, many of them wearing make-up and dressed like women. Although the firefighters were not physically assaulted, the gestures were clearly directed towards them.
But according to lesbian fire chief Tracy Jarman, it's all good clean fun:
Fire Chief, Tracy Jarman, an open lesbian, stated, “This is a fun event and all employees are required encouraged to participate.”
When Jarman was appointed Fire Chief she stated that her homosexuality has never been an issue at the department and she has never seen any gay-related trouble.
Fire department spokesman Maurice Luque said the fire crew was chosen because its fire station 5 on Ninth Avenue in Hillcrest is in the community where the parade took place. Luque said another crew had volunteered, but bowed out for personal reasons, including a family death, the day before.
In statements filed with the state, the men said that along the parade route, they were subjected to offensive and lewd comments such as, “You can put out my fire,” and saw men blowing kisses at them. Then, they said, they had to endure protesters who yelled at them that homosexuality was a sin. Some comments were too graphic to print.
Note how writer Pauline Repard uses the line "some comments were too graphic to print" directly after her line about the anti-homosexual protestors...as if the protestors were the ones using the graphic language.
That was not the case. Here is the complaint. The protestors did tell the firefighters that they would "go to hell" for supporting homosexuality...but the complaint does not indicate any "graphic comments" by the protestors.
No...the "graphic comments" all came from the crowd who was there to celebrate the homosexual lifestyle.
But there's more. It turns out that the firefighters were given a direct order to participate in the parade. From the statement of firefighter Chad Allison:
On July 21, 2007, I was called into work for overtime at Fire Station 5. I found out just prior to my arrival that Engine 5 was assigned to participate in the Gay Pride Parade. Battalion Chief Tony Pollard informed our crew that we were going to be participating in the parade. Having heard of past harassment that occurred from members of members of the public to Fire Personnel in the parade and having personal experience with similar circumstances, I felt extremely uncomfortable with the potential of being subjected to sexual harassment...
I expressed my concern to my supervisor, Fire Captain John Ghiotto...Captain Ghiotto expressed our conern to Battalion Chief Tony Pollard. Around 9:00 hours, Battalion Chief Pollard stated that we were to report to staging at 09:30 hours. Captain Ghiotto again expressed his concerns and asked if our participation was a direct order. Battallion Chief Pollard informed us that is was a direct order from Shift Commander Camberos, Deputy Chief Marlborough, and Assistant Chief Jeff Carle.
First up, the controversy of Carver Elementary School. As noted earlier here, there are over 100 Sudanese Muslim students attending Carver...a public school in the San Diego Unified School District:
Point in fact...the memo from the San Diego School District states that the Muslim students are allowed to pray during "non-instructional" time. There is a lunch period from 12:00pm to 12:50pm at Carver Elementary. Wouldn't this be an OK time for these Muslim students to get their prayer on? Or is Islam so rigid that if the students miss the proper positioning of the sun, that these students risk the ire of allah? Funny, I don't seem to remember Hakeem Olojuwon calling time out in the middle of a Rockets game so he could pray...and allah never smote him at half court.
Now on one point (and I can't believe I am doing this) I actually agree with Ibrahim Hooper. Students of all faith should be allowed to pray. However to set aside a full hour of what should be instructional time (to segregate students by faith and gender for an hour of prayer) is wrong. That is approximately 200 hours of "instructional" time each year that my tax dollars support.
Of course since this involves the encroachment of our public schools by religious zealots, the ACLU has been quick to respond:
To complete the O'Reilly doubleheader (so to speak), last night O'Reilly spoke up on the San Diego Padres' decision to have a gay "pride" night on the same night as a give-away night for kids:
By the way, Sandy Rios, baseball doesn't have a "halftime".
Full disclosure. I had plans to attend that game and was about to purchase tickets when I heard of the planned pride "festivities." I cancelled those plans when I found out that it would be "pride" night.
I have no problem with the gay men's choir singing the national anthem before a game. I have no problem with a homosexual group purchasing a block of tickets to a game...the San Diego Padres have accommodated all groups wishing to purchase tickets.
My problem is this. The gay "pride" group specifically chose this night out of all nights to make a statement. There is a gay "pride" weekend coming up and no doubt this group wanted exposure for their upcoming event. What better way to do it than by pitting their group night up against a giveaway night for children?
Boycott of gay pride event at Padres game fizzles By Scott LaFee
As boycotts go, yesterday's protest at Petco Park flopped – like the hats.
Objecting to the confluence of two promotions at last night's Padres game – “Pride Night,” a group event for local gays and lesbians, and a team giveaway of floppy hats to children 14 and younger – several Christian and conservative groups called for a public protest and boycott of the game.
The San Diego Police Department reported no unusual activity or arrests related to the protest.
The lack of problems contrasted with the back-and-forth barbs exchanged before the game on both sides of the debate about whether it was wise to have the floppy-hat giveaway on Pride Night.
What LaFee missed in his "in-depth" reporting was what the O'Reilly segment showed...the "pride" contingent demonstrating and practicing their values...right in front of thousands of kids who were there for their hats and a ballgame. Of course Ron deHart doesn't see it that way:
Local gay leaders responded with puzzlement, dismay and some anger. “We're talking about a baseball game. That's all this is,” said Ron deHarte, executive director of San Diego Pride, which had purchased 1,000 tickets to yesterday's game, then advertised them on the group's Web site as “Out at the Park with the San Diego Padres, an official San Diego Pride event.”
“Huge numbers of gay and lesbian families go to baseball games with their kids every day,” he said. “We go because we're fans. What these (objecting groups) don't seem to understand is that there are children at every Padres game and there are gays there, too. To suggest that it's anything more than a baseball game is a ridiculous argument from the Dark Ages.”
OK Ron, if all you are talking about is a baseball game, then why the signs? Why the demonstrations? Why the groups of men kissing men and women kissing women? If by your assertion, gays go to ballgames "all the time", then why don't I see similar behavior at those games?
And I have been to over a thousand major league baseball games. Add in NBA and college basketball, NFL and college football games, NHL hockey and other miscellaneous sporting events, and you can double that number. And you know what? I have NEVER witnessed men kissing men and women kissing women at any of those.
I would think that if it was "just a ballgame", that Dehart's group could have kept their urges in check and left their signs at home. But of course, we all know what the real agenda was that night.
BTW...the San Diego Padres were in a tough spot. I don't agree with O'Reilly that they were "stupid". Had they denied the sale of tickets to the "pride" group, then the ACLU would have been on their doorstep. Knowing that the local media would support the gay agenda, they took the path of least resistance.
Next year? Somehow I believe the Padres will see this coming and try to barter a compromise.
