Miss USA starts cat-fight with Couric

The lovely Miss USA, Rachel Smith, isn't sure what she wants to do with the rest of her life. But she knows who she doesn't want to be:



I always wanted to be a reporter - maybe some TV. Who knows? Some serious news but some modeling, too . . . I just don't want to end up like Katie Couric. I want people to take me seriously.



Couric was none-too-pleased with Smith's "dis". She had this response:

Yiddish...my OTHER option was to go with MSNBC. They had the quote too.

But I decided to go with a more legitimate news organization...

From the beginning I thought it was fairly obvious that her comments were not intended as a slight, but were just some ill-chosen words. Then Miss Couric’s rep overreacted and turned the proverbial molehill into a mountain.
The fact that she’s issued a statement to the effect that Miss Couric’s always been one of her role models confirms that the whole dustup has been a misunderstanding from the start.
