Mara McWilliams and Renee Mangrum: The faces of liberal tolerance

The two married lesbians parked this SUV outside a Mormon family's home:

"They came last night, washed the paint off and drove away," said Bob Sundstrom, whose family incurred the wrath of two gay-marriage supporters after the family hung a huge banner on their garage in favor of the ballot measure banning same-sex marriage. "What a relief, I'm happy it's gone."

Sunday, two women in a Chevrolet Surbuban drove up in front of the Sundstrom's home and painted the sport-utility vehicle's windows with slogans accusing the devout Mormon family of seven of being "bigots" and "haters." So for the next few days, the Sundstroms were forced to reckon with the eyesore. Police told them the vehicle would be towed away if was not moved in three days.

Tuesday evening, however, one of the women whom Sundstrom recognized from the previous encounter showed up, washed off the slogans and then left in the SUV.

"She wasn't in the mood for conversation. It's obvious we weren't going to change each other's view," Sundstrom said. "She brought her own bucket to wash off the paint."

The SUV is registered to Mara McWilliams and Renee Mangrum, who married in 2004 when San Francisco began performing gay marriages. Neither could be reached for comment.

And neither will be reached for comment. Because libtards cannot be held accountable for their actions, yo.

Interestingly, Mara has a ready-made excuse for her actions. She's bi-polar:

I believe the more we educate each other and unite for the sake of mental wellness for all, our world would be a better place for our children to play. I hope you share this belief, if so, welcome to our journey…

Quite honestly, I have been to hell and back and I am proud to be able to stand here tall and say I have survived, and I am continuing to survive, my illness and society’s stereotypes of me. I am also simply a woman, mother, wife, artist, poet, author and a mental health advocate.

While growing up, my parents thought something was a little “off” about my mood swings...

Mara McWilliams: Still "a little off"

Mara's Facebook page leaves little doubt as to her position on Prop 8.

Curiously, Mara's website is temporarily offline.

Here...the tolerant liberal lesbian couple on their wedding day. Don't they look like a happy couple? Mara's lovely bride Renee is on the right:

I wonder if they are teaching their daughter their brand of liberal tolerance. From the LA Times in 2004:

“We’re already a family,” said Mara McWilliams, a 34-year-old mental health worker from San Jose, as she waited in line for her turn in the clerk’s office Sunday morning. Her 8-year-old daughter, Serena, clutched her leg as McWilliams’ partner of four years, Renee Mangrum, dashed off to get coffee. “This is to show the world we’re already a family. We’re normal, professional people. We’re not here with our freak on.”

Hmm. I think a good, devout and loving Mormon family should have washed that SUV for free...it WAS dirty, in more ways than one.
I'm generally not one for vandalizing others' property, but I have to say, in such a case as this, my urge to put a brick (or several) through the offending window(s) might have become overwhelming around the first night of this shit. (Officer, I never saw a thing, I swear.")
Of course, I'm not as tolerant as the good Mormons in this sorry tale.
And just out of curiosity, was the "we're just a normal, professional people, we're not here with our freak on" quote in the original article juxtaposed SOOO nicely with the photo of Mangrum with the 'second class citizen' drivel on her face??? Geez, Nigel, you deserve a journalism award for that right there...great!!

I'm with you on the neither confirm nor deny random damage to Dyke-moblie, Brian. I would have applied aircraft stripper to the paint and done a little abstract art in the form of a giant infected penis.

I have known the Sundstroms personally for several years now and I am not surprised at their patience with that ridiculous, hate-ridden car parked in front of their house. Bob and his wife are the type of people that if they saw that same suv broken down on the side of the road, they wouldn't even hesitate to stop and help.

I hope that those two women will come to realize someday that they are going through their life hating people because of a lie they have made up in their own minds. It's too bad. If they had just had a reasonable conversation with them, they could have made new friends. In this world, it is truly rare to have the kind of friend that the Sundstroms are to everyone.

The lesbians I know are pretty nice. But here's the thing I never figured out. Why do lesbians seem to have so much more hostility than homosexual men?

Wonderful environment to bring up a child isn't it?

I can't believe what I'm seeing. How can any of you condone "Yes on 8"? Some points:

1) Their message of protest, "Bigots Live Here" was counterpoint to a hateful message, "Yes on 8". Which message was more hateful? Well, which message actually resulted in people losing rights?

2) Mormon/Catholic churches were the biggest supporters of 8. Both churches have long, disgusting histories of hateful persecution. Mormons believe blacks are descended from Caine, and that dark skin in general is the mark of his fratricide. The prophets of the church have repeated this atrocious slur many times, and as recently as 1993. If you want documentation, search Doctrine and Covenants.

3) Along the same theme, the dark skinned natives of North and South America are descended from the wicked and corrupt Lamanites and their darkness is their mark for their ways. It's in your official books, folks, straight from the mouths of your god's prophets, repeatedly, and recently.

4) Same with women. Even though polygamy is "illegal", Mormon men can still temple-marry many women, even in a California temple. Mormon women must get a temple-divorce before remarrying.

5) Great history, bigots. If you want to teach your kids about good and evil, start by meditating on the Dark Ages, and how superstitious ignorance and persecution reigned so hard and supreme, for so long. And for models of respect in the home, don't look to religious institutions who have opposed women's "free agency" at every opportunity.

Hey Cliff...thanks for showing us another fine example of tolerance from the left (not sure if you are gay or not, so I didn't make that assumption).

1. Nobody lost any "rights". Gay couples have all of the rights under the law that married couples do under "domestic partnerships". In fact they have MORE rights than heterosexual domestic partners who have chosen not to marry. In fact, there are churches who still choose to "marry" gay couples. The only "right" that gays lost was the right to have such marriages recognized by the state of California. Boo freakin' hoo. People voted against Gay Marriage in California TWICE. Only libtard judges who have been appointed by libtard governors have tried to decide if that is a "right". And if we are going to let judges make laws, then why bother to vote?

2. What Mormon churches have done in the past is not relevant here. The Mormon church has a perfect right to donate to such a campaign...as did the California Teachers Union did in donating a million dollars to the "No on 8" campaign. The difference? Nobody vandalized Teachers Union offices or schools. But the "tolerant" "No on 8" mob vandalized churches, homes and businesses. What a great way to make your point.

3. I'm not going to defend the Mormons on their theology. Attack it if you like, but it has NO bearing on their support of Proposition 8....nor any bearing on the thuggery of the "No on 8" mob.

4. Polygamy has not been allowed in the mainstream Mormon church in 100 years. And again...what happened over 100 years ago has nothing to do with Proposition 8.

5. And like a typical libtard...you throw out the word "bigot". Disagree with the homosexual community? WHY YOU MUST BE A HATEFUL, IGNORANT, BIGOT! BIGOT! BIGOT! BIGOT!

Because that's the only argument you have. You cannot respect the belief the overwhelming majority of people have in this country of marriage being between 1 man and 1 woman. A covenant that is set in our Bible for those of us who belief in its teachings.

If you don't believe in traditional marriage, fine. Go have a gay wedding at a gay-friendly church. Form a domestic partnership, collect insurance and benefits, file a joint California tax return, and march in your Gay Pride parade (with your whips and your sex toys).

Just don't force your beliefs on me (sound familiar?) or my children.

SOME RESPONSES:

"Gay couples have all of the rights under the law that married couples do under "domestic partnerships". In fact they have MORE rights than heterosexual domestic partners who have chosen not to marry."

That is such a load of crap. Do the words "separate but equal" mean anything to you? And "marriage" is the de facto union of the land, even for athiests, Buddhists, and Wiccans. It's not yours to mete out only to people who agree with you.

----

"You cannot respect the belief the overwhelming majority of people have in this country of marriage being between 1 man and 1 woman."

Overwhelming? Hardly. And anyway, the battle to overturn hateful, exclusionary thinking always starts as a minority's battle. Otherwise you wouldn't have to overturn it.

----

"A covenant that is set in our Bible for those of us who belief in its teachings."

Excellent point. You said it, not me. Stop imposing your beliefs on my friends, that's why we call you a bigot.

----

"libtard"

hater.

Clifford,

Thank you so much for being our comedic relief today.

I have better things to do than argue with you all day, so I am going to take the last word. You can go spew your uninformed garbage somewhere else.

California just decided what marriage is. It just got defined as a Constitutional Amendment. So yes, Californians DO get to decide what marriage is and who gets to be married under the state.

Again, you want to go to a gay church and get married...and then call that marriage...fine. Just don't ask me to recognize it. Move to Massachusetts and get married...and I'd have to.

And Cliff...sorry. Despite the homosexual communities re-education and propaganda efforts against our children, 60% of Americans are still against gay marriage. Not ONE state's electorate has approved gay marriage. NOT ONE.

The only states to approve gay marriage did so under the edict of a judge. If you want to live in a country where laws are decided by judges and not people...then you and I want to live in different countries.

Nobody is asking you to read the Bible. Nobody is asking you to become a Christian. But don't call me a Bigot because I believe in the Bible and believe that God created marriage to be between 1 man and 1 woman. I can respect your differing opinion without calling you a bigot.

As far as calling you a libtard...well if that hurts your feelings (and it probably does), I'm truly sorry.

Wait. No I'm not.

Now don't you have a restaurant to go boycott or something?
